The Chairs of IGBS Trustees and FIGS Trustees, Nagomoro Bridget and John Benington, are delighted to announce the appointment of Vicky Dratia as Head Teacher of Ibba Girls’ Boarding School.
As many of you know, the former Head, Richard, had a serious road accident some months ago, with some brain and spinal injury. Unfortunately he has continued to suffer from severe headaches and back and kidney pain, requiring heavy pain killers and frequent absences for hospital tests and treatment. After careful discussion he and we concluded at a series of face-to-face meetings in Uganda earlier this month that he needs more time to recover his health, away from such a demanding and stressful job. Richard has given great energy and commitment to the school and the local community over four very volatile and difficult years for South Sudan and IGBS. We appreciate this brave work, and in accepting his resignation wish him and his family well for the future.
Vicky has worked closely with Richard since her appointment Director of Studies of IGBS in February 2015, and holds a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma in Secondary Education. She has held a number of training and leadership roles in Uganda and the region for the British Council and the government. Prior to joining IGBS, Vicky was head of English at a Ugandan secondary school, while also working as a national examiner and volunteering to support South Sudanese refugees and promote girls’ education.
